Many antiperspirants contain aluminum that has been implicated as a risk factor for both breast cancer and Alzheimer's disease. Underarm deodorants control odor by eliminating the bacteria that cause odor. Conventional antiperspirant salts tend to be acidic in aqueous solution, a property which makes them effective bactericides, thereby providing a deodorant benefit, but which can also cause skin irritation.
Therefore, it is beneficial to control the body odor without the use of aluminum. Most skincare products use heavily synthetic preservatives (such as parabens and triclosan) to increase shelf life to 2-3 years.
